On Shore Events at Hamilton Island Race Week
Can you have too much of a good thing? Nah! Half way through Audi Hamilton Island Race Week and the on-shore events program has been full on.
Saturday started with a beautiful morning on the water before the Wild Oats Ladies Lunch, with guest Terry Biviano, and then the Collette Dinnigan Parade that night. Guest of honour was the lovely Asher Keddie who joined Audi Guests and an assortment of other Beautiful People for Dinnigan’s 2012-13 Resort Wear launch. The pink sunset matched the pinks and reds of the collection – now that’s coordination for you. The party continued on at the Captains Lounge on Front Street long after the cocktail party had finished.
There were familiar faces at the Paspaley ‘Stranded at qualia’ lunch on Sunday which featured pearl meat and beautiful strands of Paspaley pearls amongst the table centrepieces. Many guests then continued on to coca chu for the ‘At Home with Kylie Kwong’ dinner. The highlight for Kylie and many of the guests were the Airlie Beach mud crabs. The Chinese banquet style meal was perfect for the newly opened beach-front restaurant.
Monday was all about Ali Waddell and the Long Pavillion at qualia. Firstly there was an AEG Masterclass, hosted by Simon Thomsen, where Ali showed some different ways of using sous vide (water bath) cooking techniques and how they can be used at home. Who would have thought that an egg cooked at 64 degrees is so different from one cooked at 65 degrees?? We got to try one of those 64 degree eggs with jamon for a very nice eggs-and-ham brunch. The Robert Oatley Vineyards Chefs Table Dinner that night also featured our sous vide eggs and a myriad of other flavours. Those not at qualia that night were down at Sails restaurant for the ‘Tastes of the Sea’ dinner.
Coming up in the next few days… more food and more champagne, with the Moet & Chandon Lunch, Masterclasses and a dinner from Shannon Bennett and Matt Moran, the Pool Party and High Tea with Adriano Zumbo. I won’t need to eat again for weeks!
