Night Diving with the Whales

I stopped in at H20 Sportz to pick up some snorkelling masks for the kids. While I was there the team was discussing a night dive they had completed late last year. A group of dive instructors from Hamilton Island and Airlie Beach travelled north to Hook Island and dived off False Nava.

One of their highlights was hearing whale and dolphin song in the darkness. I think that night diving would be un-nerving enough without the sounds of un-seen denizens echoing in my ears! Towards the end of the dive they saw a small shark in their dive lights – a perfect reason to call it a night, before its big brother came to visit!

I think I prefer my diving holiday activities to take place during the day…
