Last weekend saw the social event of the year on Hamilton Island: the Kidz Ball! Now in its 12th year, the Kidz Ball is a joint fundraiser between the Island Kindy and Hamilton Island State School, raising upwards of $30,000 for various projects. For the school, the goal for 2012 is a new playground, for Kindy, new play equipment.

Predictably, fashion ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous (I think you can figure out where the lads in their Foul Fashion gear rank in that scale!). It was a fantastic night, with staff and island residents letting their hair down at the Hamilton Island Conference Centre and later at Boheme’s nightclub on Front Street. Hair appointments had been booked out for weeks, the day spa did a roaring trade and the post office kept busy with all the frocks that had been ordered online.

There were major and minor Raffles up for grabs, and some fantastic auction items including a singed Cadel Evans 2011 winners jersey from the Tour de France, a sunset cruise on board luxury cruiser Alani, and a two night stay for eight people in Pavilions.

It was a great night, and the generosity of the organising committee, prize donors and sponsors, and the Hamilton Island community was overwhelming. On the behalf of the kids (and all of us who had such a good time) thank you, thank you!
