Hamilton Island State School Turns 25

Hamilton Island State School is located on the hill above Catseye bay. It has a roll of 40 students split into two classrooms. It schools most of the primary school-age children living on the island, and is run by a fantastic team of staff and volunteers.
The school has a great relationship with Hamilton Island who readily supplies equipment as required, even loaning their training kitchen for the use of the junior classroom during the last term.
The school is well supported by the wider community too, with the annual Kids Ball a sell-out success and a massive social event for Island residents.
Visits to and from wider afield are common (let’s face it, it isn’t exactly a hardship to make a trip to Hamilton Island). The most recent was a visit from the Anglican College band from Mackay which saw the 38 wind brass and percussion players display great skill with Christmas and contemporary songs played to a rapt audience.
The 2011 school year finished with a bang with the end of year concert combining with a gala to celebrate the 25th birthday of the school. Congratulations H.I.S.S!

Hi Steve
Thanks for your comment. Good luck with the application. It is a great little community up here, and another little one would be very welcome at school. We have a kids dance ‘troop’ on the island who practice after school, and there are several music groups about the place including the new ukulele club! Hope to see you all sometime soon!
Cheers
Jenni
