A Leisurely Dash Around Dent

Magnificent Hamilton Island Golf Club (Photo: Jenni Shah)
I took the golf course tour today. It is a free activity that can be booked directly through the golf club or the tour desk and usually runs daily. The ferry left at 10am from the marina and 10 minutes later the skipper skilfully pulled up to the wharf on Dent Island. The Hamilton Island Golf Club sits on Dent Island, a short hop across the water from Hamilton Island.
Dent Island is accessed by a 10 minute ferry ride from the Hamilton Island marina. The ferry itself reminds me of a geodesic dome, full of triangles and hexagons. It is a boat well suited to its purpose; even when Dent Passage gets rough (as it did this morning) it is still a quick and pleasant trip across the water.
The team greeted us at the wharf and drove us up to the club house. Wow – with views like that I’d love it to be MY house! Our group was made up of couples and two families. Our guide Brody wound up with the kids is his six-seater off-road buggy and the adults took their own two seaters.
The tour lasted for an hour (?) and takes in the back nine holes on the southern end of the Island. The views from these greens must rank with the best in the world. In fact, the Australian Golf Course Guide ranked it the “3rd Most Beautiful in Australia” on it’s debut in the awards this year. Yet again the weather was glorious, and when we stopped at the 14thfor photos we were treated to a panoramic view of the Whitsunday Islands.
